The Shifting Probabilities are Extraordinary in No-Limit Texas Poker Hold 'Em Poker
It's funny to think that when I lived in Las Vegas, and was on the air at KLUC-FM - I never had the chance to play Texas Hold 'Em poker. This game is widely available at all the nearby casinos. I was able to learn how to play blackjack as well as how to count the card. Forbes has written about this topic here, here, and even here. Now I'm focused on poker online and am discovering how it is different and unique. At every stage of the game, the set of probabilities changes greatly.
While I lived mainly in Vegas, I was just working to raise my family. The blackjack game was great fun to master and learn. With the goal of increasing my income, I have been improving my poker skills, namely my Texas Hold Em poker skills. I was six years old when I looked at the old TV shows Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker, and realized that high-level players are not much different from me. So I began to study the game, practice, and occasionally play at very low stakes.
It took some time to find the right site, but I eventually found it. Replay Poker was not real money, but had the right rules and conditions for me to practice like it were. I lost for months, sometimes even years. I'd play for several weeks and then get beat so badly that I decided to give up and start reading books and thinking about it. About two years ago, it was clear that I was not breaking even. I then began to break even, and every few sessions I would win. My "account" slowly, and I mean slowly, moved to the positive and, generally speaking, stayed there.
Finally, I opened a virtual money account online and made $25 in deposit to be able to play at the 10 and 20-cent virtual tables. Those are the ones that have the small blind at 10 cents, and the big blind at 20 cents. You don't need to do too much, just start small. It was my intention, and I stuck with it. This was very easy, as I lost all my initial deposit. It's not like practice poker.
I gave up, and stayed away for several months. I started to read books on poker, and then began searching the internet for "how do you play the big blind in Hold'Em". After that search, I read whatever came up. James Sweeney has a YouTube channel called "The Poker Bank", where he explains many basic and more complex situations. After a few weeks of research, I realized the mistakes I made and how to fix them. Gus Hansen’s book Every Hand Revealed was almost a textbook about the subject.
A limit Hold'Em expert told me that this game has been solved. In other words, there is a way to play that ultimately leads you to win, which is mathematically correct. However, this is not true for no limit Hold'Em. The game is too complex with many variables. I was more impressed by those who win and make a living out of it the more I learned. the different levels of thinking about no limit hold em
